Who Makes Bentley?

The Bentley name has been synonymous with high-performance luxury in Los Angeles and Glendale for over one hundred years! The company was founded in 1919 by Walter Owen Bentley as an independent company, but has since changed hands among various owners, including Rolls-Royce and Vickers PLC. So who makes Bentleys today? Since 1997, when Vickers PLC decided to sell the Rolls-Royce brand (which owned the Bentley name), Bentley has been owned by Volkswagen AG. Bentley vehicles were produced jointly by Volkswagen and BMW between 1997 and 2003, but have been exclusively made by Volkswagen as part of its premium Audi division from 2003 to the present day.

Interested in learning more about the Bentley brand? For example, where is Bentley made? How are the cars produced? Bentley Pasadena has all the details in the guide below!

Where are Bentley Cars Made?

Where are Bentley cars made today? Bentley was founded by an Englishman, Walter Owen Bentley, and as such the vast majority of Bentley vehicles have been manufactured in the United Kingdom. The original headquarters for Bentley production was called the Derby Factory, but today the majority of their vehicles are made in the Bentley Motors Factory in Crewe, England. This factory is also called the Crewe Factory or the Pyms Lane Factory after its street address.

Bentley has been continuously manufacturing vehicles at the Crewe Factory since 1946, after production was halted during the Second World War. If you find yourself in the area, you can even set up a tour of the factory! Or, if you’d prefer to explore from afar, you can schedule a virtual one-on-one tour with CW1 House, the Crewe Factory visitors’ center.

How Are Bentley Cars Made?

As a luxury car brand, Bentley puts a great deal of handcrafted care into the production of their vehicles. Every inch of a Bentley is designed and put together by a team of highly-trained specialists who use only the highest-quality OEM parts. For a truly customized Bentley, you can travel to the Crewe Factory in England and oversee the production of a completely unique vehicle. You’ll even meet with the design team, pick out your favorite bespoke upholstery, and fine-tune other details from the commissioning area.
