Bentley Storage Preparation

For some exotic car owners, touring the open road is an experience reserved exclusively for the best months of the year. Seasonal car storage is relatively simple, and when done properly, it ensures that your vehicle will be ready to drive as soon as the mood strikes you. Our service experts can assist with all of the check-ups and inspections that you should perform when bringing a vehicle out of storage—and we’re equally happy to help you set up a Bentley storage garage of your own. Let’s get started.

Protecting a Luxury Car: Garage Storage vs. Public Facilities

There’s nothing wrong with storing your vehicle in a guarded, climate controlled, and well-reviewed public car storage facility. However, for many Bentley owners, it’s both easy and rewarding to set up a seasonal car storage garage at home. No matter which way you decide to go, you should know that you have plenty of options in Los Angeles and Glendale.

Seasonal Car Storage: 101

Before you move your car into a garage for storage, follow this checklist to minimize the risks posed by downtime:

  1. Lift your vehicle off the ground to prevent permanent flat spots from forming on your tires. If you don’t want to install a storage lift or set your vehicle on jack stands, you can also use tire cradles.
  2. Purchase a battery maintainer to keep your battery at full or nearly-full capacity.
  3. Replace the oil to ensure that grime isn’t left sitting in your engine.
  4. Replacing your spark plugs will also help you protect your cylinders and keep your engine clean.
  5. Fill up your gas tank, which can otherwise collect moisture and start to rust in storage.
  6. Clean and detail the entirety of your vehicle, or schedule detailing service with our team.
  7. Preserve your handiwork by purchasing interior and exterior car covers that fit your vehicle perfectly. Protect your garage from any unknown leaks by laying down a tarp before you park.
  8. Wiper blades can stick to the windshield if left in place for too long. Wrap them up with plastic wrap to prevent this outcome.
  9. Unblocked tailpipes and air intakes can look like winter homes to insects and small animals. Use rags to keep these areas protected.
  10. Deactivate your parking brake to ensure that it doesn’t fuse to the wheel. If your vehicle is on any sort of incline, you can and should use wheel chocks to keep it in place.

Almost all of the tools you’ll need to keep your vehicle in great shape can be found at our parts department in Pasadena. If you’re making significant modifications, like installing a car storage lift in your garage, we can point you in the direction of a supplier that we trust.

Generally speaking, it’s also a good idea to ensure that your garage is equipped with the proper climate controls. Here in California, extreme heat and cold may not pose a serious risk—but it’s never a good idea to leave the condition of your exotic vehicle up to chance. Moreover, excessive humidity can be a serious problem in its own right.
